COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
The current Comprehensive Plan, adopted by the Town Board in June 2006, is being updated. As with the 2006 Plan, its successor is being developed with citizen input and being overseen by a steering committee consisting of citizens, the business community and municipal staff members. All work relating to the planning process for the Comprehensive Plan Update can be accessed at the website link at the bottom of this page.
When completed, the Plan will establish a long-term vision, goals, strategies and actions intended to be implemented over the next 10-15 years. The Plan will address a wide variety of topics including infrastructure and economic development, smart growth and resiliency, recreation and open space, environmental conservation, housing, and renewable energy resources.
The Comprehensive Plan provides a long-term vision for Ontario as well as detailed information to those individuals and organizations looking for a place to settle and industries looking for a place to grow. It provides order to the growth of the community and the use of the community’s resources such as land.
The process of developing the Plan will take approximately one year to complete. Its formal adoption will be by Town Board resolution pursuant to NYS Town Law §272-a, which gives local municipalities the responsibility of developing such a plan.
Additional public input is being sought at a Public Workshop - December 10th from 6-9 PM, at Parks & Recreation Community Center, 6551 Knickerbocker Road. There will be no formal presentations. This is an opportunity to drop in and talk with those involved in the process, get an update on progress, assess the direction of the effort, voice your opinion and get your questions answered. An additional Public Workshop is planned for later in the process. Keep an eye on their website through the link at the bottom of this page.
